I just installed a new site successfully. I was using a site that I previously had up and running as a model. I accidentally overwrote the wp-config.php file with the one from the original install folder. Now my old site thinks its a new site and wants to run the install again. I'm afraid to do anything with it for fear I'll lose everything and have to start over.

    Can anyone help?

    Jeff

  2. You'll need to get the database setting of your old site. You should be able to get that info in your Hosting provider control panel. I know that with Dreamhost, you can find the name of the database and username. You can't find the password, but you can reset it.

Once you have that, just stick that info in your wp-config and it should connect you back to the db and show you the old site.

We can obtain the password as well at dreamhost. I did it a couple of times.

    BTW Jeff, be patient.
    1. make a backup of your current wp-config file. and keep it somewhere safe.
    2. open the current wp-config file to make changes and make it compatible or your old host.

    3. there are just four or five (if automatic install) option to be edited.

    4. login to control panel of your webhost. and obtain the name of your database username and password and the host address.
(specify your web host as well)

    5. fill the required details in wp-config, and you are good to go.
