Help - I broke my blog (7 posts)

OK please do not slap me around too hard for this question as I know just enough to be stupid at this point. I have a godaddy hosting package in which I am utilizing wp there. I uploaded a new theme tonight and when I tried to change to that theme and see how it looks I now get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: register_sidebar() in /home/content/l/c/h/lchilton/html/wp-content/themes/real-collage-10/real-collage-10/functions.php on line 10

Is there anyway for me to recover from this? Can I somehow access the login again through a back way and change the theme? Godaddy just said to uninstall and redo WP but that means kiss about a year of posts goodbye. Any suggestions for a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

use your ftp client, delete the theme from the themes directory.

Thank you for your reply. I did do that but am unable to access the login from the home page of my blog now. It's http://www.liveincarrollton.com. Usually I go there, login, and then manage the look and feel and post. Now I am unable to login anymore.

    umm, no you didnt.

    or this wouldnt be here:

    http://www.liveincarrollton.com/wp-content/themes/real-collage-10/real-collage-10/index.php

theres another thing going on as well btw, that theme isnt properly uploaded. You nested the directory. Next time you ftp a them, look at how the two themes that come with WP are installed:

    wp-content/themes/themename

    you, have this structure:

    wp-content/themes/themename/themename

Fixing that will not fix your problem though, Im just pointing that out for next time.

Needless to say, that theme is NOT deleted, You see I can bring up the files.

I know that godaddy takes a few minutes to update changes made to .htaccess files -- if you swear that you have deleted those theme files, which I still doubt, based on how well you didnt do with the uploading part, then perhaps thats the problem, in which case you just need to wait.

OMG - blonde moment I guess. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I spent an hour looking for the code that actually calls the theme thinking I could change it there. I am a little hard headed at times to say the least. I deleted the theme from the directory and viola' - works like a champ just like you said it would. I really appreciate your help.

I see what you mean about the directory structure and that is odd. The way it is actually setup is the way you said it should be: wp-content/themes/"themes listed here". It does look weird in the error message though.

See this is what happens when a realtor knows just enough to shoot herself in the foot. I purchased a ton of books on WordPress, html, css, etc. and just don't have enough of an understanding to put it all together yet. The other folks in my office just looked at me like I was off my rocker when I said I wanted to blog. Maybe someday I'll have it all figured out . . . .

You're the best. Thanks again for your help.

Good for you for doing all that research! A lot of people never make the effort to understand how everything works. The more you play with it, the more sense it will make.
