    Anyone out there? Am desperate!

The .htaccess file (644 permissions) is being rewritten daily. A blank line is added at the top, and a space and a lower case s at the base.

4 days ago, the host (HostRocket) first said there were attempts to access the server from IPs in California, which they blocked. And said to make sure everything was up-to-date.
3 days ago they said just keep manually removing the changes.
    2 days ago: no advice
Yesterday: they said that there was an old installation of Coppermine Image Gallery, which may have caused a security hole- we removed that.

This morning, the .htaccess was altered again.

What can be causing this, and what can I do? Do I need to change hosts? Set up another installation & export?

PLEASE someone give me some guidance.

The only thing I can think of:

If that Coppermine was indeed a security breach, then just removing it might not have closed the possible backdoor.
Perhaps trying 444 to see if that helps (if that doesn't break the site immediately).
