I’m attempting to upgrade to the newer version but this is the message i get when i attempt to delete the 2.1 version: Plugin could not be deleted due to an error: Could not fully remove the plugin(s) better-file-editor/better-file-editor.php. I am probably overlooking some small process but for the life of me I can’t figure it out. Does anyone know where to find the answer to this?

I am running this installation of WordPress (3.1.1) on Linux Mint (Maya) (obtained through the repositories)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you manually install the plugin when you installed it? In order for WordPress to upgrade the plugin itself, your web server needs file write permissions to the plugin files, and the user account your web server is running under needs to be the file owner of those same files as well.

Bryan, thanks for your response. I installed the plugin through the sidebar on the Admin page (backend) I have (re: been forced) to tweak permissions for access to various features of WordPress… Thus said, perhaps i have left them in an inconsistent state… No, strike that, other plug-ins have updated automatically from the sidebar so that theory tests ‘negative’. Thanks again for your input.

A simple solution might be to delete the plugin by hand, and re-install it then hopefully.
