    Hi out there.

On Sunday I went in to upgrade Backwpup and I got this and now I can’t get into the Dashboard at all. Can’t do a thing. Can’t even tell you the version of WordPress. If I try to go in I get the WordPress login screen then this exact message (I have “x out my server name).

Fatal error: Class ‘BackWPup_Adminbar’ not found in /home/XXXXXXX/public_html/wp-content/plugins/backwpup/backwpup.php on line 241

I am not a developer level user so anyone that can help please give me a little more detail than usual on how I can get out of this predicament. I can get into CPanel and see the folders and I am hoping I can uninstall or delete the plugin from there? I did backup my work but it’s the backup plugin causing the problem so I couldn’t recover even if I wanted to.

Note I have shown the version as I can’t get into anywhere that can tell me. I set this site up initially in March so I guess it’s several versions back.

Thanks a lot for helping if you can. I did a day and a half’s work before this lockout so I am really worried about losing this plus my site is down as I had it offline.

    Regards
    John

Yes. Delete the plugin. That will let you in.

Hello Krishna thanks for responding so promptly.

    I went into CPanel / File Manager and this folder public_html/wp-content/plugins {was this the right place?}

    then I renamed backwpup to

    public_html/wp-content/plugins/backwpup_Corrupt

I then got these error messages and I still can’t get into my site?

Warning: fopen(/home/the33109/public_html/wp-content/plugins/backwpup/backwpup.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/the33109/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3508

    What should I do next?

    Thanks for your help!
    Cheers

OK, did you try to login after that? Could you rename or delete the plugin?

    (@johnhackwood)

    Hi again Krishna

This is what I have done so far…

I went into CPanel / File Manager and the folder public_html/wp-content/plugins

I then renamed the folder backwpup as follows:
    public_html/wp-content/plugins/backwpup_Corrupt

Was this the right place to rename the folder do you think? This may seem a dumb question but I am a newbie and never had a problem like this before and once the site was up I have not needed to go into CPanel again.

Then I get all those error messages. I have tried going into the mysite using the url & usual \wp-admin and I just get these error messages and no options to do anything else including logging off and logging on.

I saw the attachment you sent – I am just not good enough to understand any of it. If I can delete/rename the plug in and get access to the Dashboard again that is my best bet. SO please let me know if you think I was in the right place in CPanel. Thanks for your patience and help, really appreciate it.

    Kind regards
    John

I saw the attachment you sent

    Which attachment?

Was this the right place to rename the folder do you think?

Yes. Now did you try to login after that? Can you post your site URL?

    Hi Krishna

The link not attachment you sent sorry Krishna.

    My URL is theexcelfactor.com

    Thanks again for helping.

    Kind regards

Yes I did try to login after this. But I think I am still logged in and there is not option I can see to log out. Note I had put my site under maintenance before this Fatal Error occurred so you will see the error messages plus this notice.
    John

    Now please try these steps:
    – deactivate all plugins (rename the plugins folder) and see if the problem persists. If it solves the problem, activate plugins one by one until you find the problematic one
    – revert to Twenty Twelve theme and see if the issue is theme-specific
    – delete any inactive plugins
reinstall WordPress manually from a freshly downloaded copy except wp-content. Do not overwrite files/ folders but delete them before reinstalling.
Use FTP or your hosting control panel if you cannot access dashboard.
Backup your site including database so that you can restore in case anything goes wrong.

    (@johnhackwood)

OK Krishna thanks so much I will start to do this sounds very logical.

If I need to do the reinstall WordPress manually bit I will need some further help from the right place as no idea where to start as I used an installer to set this site up. So the issue of not installing wp-content understand why but how? And using FTP or your hosting panel – again I can see why but how exactly? Do you have any info on the steps ready to hand by any chance?

Re Backup do you mean after this is sorted right? I have backed up using backwpup and for what ever reason it’s been the problem. Or do you mean backup at the Hosting server end?

Krishna I really want to thank you again for staying interested in my problem especially as I am a novice.

    Kind regards

Krishna at last I am getting somewhere thanks to you, I have seen the Dashboard after days of being locked out.

I renamed the Plug-in folder and it didn’t leave the plugins there to be activated so I guess I will have to download them again and then activate, sound right?

See the list below within the renamed plugin folder – index.php doesn’t sound like a plugin – do you think this file will be generated again in the activation process or will I need to copy this file into the new plugins folder?

    Cheers

Krishna your process has worked beautifully. Thank you so much man. I have installed all but backwpup which I haven’t done yet as I am shy of it now.

I am interested in my questions above:
index.php – it’s not there in the new plugins folder?
backup – do you mean by the Webhoster of my data on his server?

    Kind regards
    John

    Thread Starter JohnHackwood

    (@johnhackwood)

Krishna I have answered the back up question myself – I range the webhoster am backing up my site right now on the host’s CPanel while the going is good.

So hopefully the only issue left for me is the index.php file and what to do?
    Cheers
    John
Also if I backup at the hest server end. What advantage is there in a backwpup type plug-in?
    Cheers
    John

I think probably your server is down now – 503 Service Unavailable. Just wait, better don’t do anything till the server is OK.

So hopefully the only issue left for me is the index.php file and what to do?

Which index.php? There are several, in WP and your theme. Where did you find it?

What advantage is there in a backwpup type plug-in?

As the name suggests, they are used for backing up files and data in your site. If you are not comfortable with it, you can use backup tools at your hosting service.
