    All that happens is your wrapping element has no height.

    Add this css

    #page{
    overflow: hidden
    }

    In the admin panel, Go to
    - Appearance
    - Editor

    Look on the right side of the page for Templates section.
    Scroll down to the Styles section.
    - Select Stylesheet
    (style.css)
    - In the code, scroll down until the very bottom.
    - Paste this

    #page{
    overflow: hidden
    }

    That looks as though you're missing a closing speech mark somewhere

    How would that happen? How do I fix it?

    Actually your <articles> that look messed up are in the wrong place (in the code).

    They are below the footer and a closing div.
    They need to be above this closing div. When you place an article above this closing div, it appears like this

    your site has validation errors:
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.noshingwiththenolands.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

    particular the 'Stray end tag div' points to an extraneous or unmatched </div> somewhere in the code of a template or plugin, or in the content of a post.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Validating_a_Website

    in the 'Steak Butters' post, there is the broken 'diydreamer' image div;
    check the post using the html setting of the editor, look for:
    iv align="center"><a href="http://thediydreamer.blogspot.com/" title="The DIY Dreamer">...

    repair the beginning so it looks like:
    <div align="center"><a href="http://thediydreamer.blogspot.com/" title="The DIY Dreamer">...
