Apparently something on my site, likely something within WordPress (according to Dreamhost), is generating a tremendous amount of resource usage on my server.
I had a huge spike in memory usage last week and I have no idea where to start looking.

Has anyone has any experience with this sort of problem with WordPress?
Did you install any new plugins or something similar?

I'm only using 3 plugins:
Permalink Redirect
Fuzzy Recent Posts
Akismet
I'm going to de-activate the plugins and upgrade to 2.8.1 and see how that goes.

Any thoughts on heavy resource usage not related to plugins?

After further investigation it appears that there is a loopback issue potentially with wp-cron.php.
Other culprits could be my .htaccess file, permalinks, wp-db-backup.
wp-db-backup
Do you have scheduled backups? If so, try disabling this option.

Scheduled Backup has been turned off for some time.
Do you have anything scheduled, like posts to be published?
