I use SEO Ultimate to monitor my SEO, as well as 404 errors. I have checked my sitemap to see if it has been hacked.

Thank you for the articles, I can see some options here to try. Do you know if anyone has had this problem with fake URLs google is looking for on my site.

  4. Yes. It's a typical symptom of being hacked.

The idea is that by having more sites (like yours) link to those spammy sites, that will increase the Google-lyness and get more people to visit them.

SEO really is a 4 letter word. ;)

Once you've deloused your WordPress installation give these a look over too.

I have run these scans on my site and they all returned "clean".

  6. Scanning doesn't always pick up hacks. Or you might be fortunate and actually aren't hacked. That would be a good thing. ;)

Aside from your sitemap, can you locate those fake URLs on your site? If you can share your URL I can take a look too.

No the URLS do not exist anywhere in the site files. It is very odd, I haven't ever seen anything like this and I did a google search on the issue and could not find anything either. I wonder if someone can pass false URLS to google by setting up a fake webmaster account for the site somehow.

There was 187, 404 errors today from the typical googlebot, each URL was unique like the ones above.

  11. The site looks fine. I didn't do a deep dive but the scan's look OK and the HTML source didn't look odd to me.

You're probably fine, no idea where those fake URLs came from.

You probably do already but make and keep file and database backups on a regular basis in case we're both wrong...

weird huh? I'll keep a close eye on things. I do daily backups of all my SQL and websites. Looks fine to me as well. Maybe someone else has had this happen that can shed some light on this topic if it is up for a little while. I'll keep yo posted as well, if I have the problem tomorrow.
