Hard Coded Content Disappeared After Import

I am at a loss…
I am in the process of migrating a small wordpress installation from my temporary server to the client’s new server. Everything seems to work fine, except that the hard coded content on my main index template has disappeared.
When I first imported my WordPress backup XML file, the content on the main page was duplicated. I figured that since the same copy is also contained on the “About” page, there might be something there that was interfering.
Sure enough, the new WP installation’s default About page was still there, thus renaming my About page’s permalink to “about-2.” I deleted the default page and renamed my page’s permalink to “about,” but then ALL of the copy on the main index page disappeared.
I have the content on that page hard coded because I didn’t want to have the About page as my static home page (Client doesn’t want the headline title to appear on the main page).
I’m sure there’s a way to have the main index page only display the body copy of my About page (if you could tell me, I’d appreciate it), but my previous solution worked just fine on my temporary server.
Could it be because the new server is still on PHP4, or maybe because it is still on a temporary URL? Any ideas on how to get it working again?
