Hi, I would like to utilise this neat little bit of code without installing it as a plugin. So I am thinking it is possible to just add it to a php file somewhere, only due to lack of experience I also lack surety in the the placement of the code. I'm guessing the best place to put it would be somewhere in footer.php ?

Also, do I need to insert "<?php" which is at the top of the page and "add_action( 'wp_footer', 'render_stop_sopa_ribbon' );" which is at the end. ?

Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.

    Okay. Odd, but okay. ;)

Huh? Generally speaking you can take plugin code and put it into your theme's functions.php file but that's exactly the same as just adding a plugin.

You could visit a site that has the plugin installed, copy the raw HTML and then paste that into your footer.php but that's what the plugin does for you.

Hi. When I said "ask in the forums" I didn't mean "ask me in the forums," but whatever... If you're trying to make the stop sopa ribbon code active on your site without the ability to deactivate it, you can drop the plugin (and image) into a folder called mu-plugins in your wp-content directory. Learn more about Must Use plugins here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Must_Use_Plugins

If there's some other reason you're trying to do that, like keep less files, make your WordPress faster or whatever, then you're doing it wrong. Functions.php is for your theme functions, not a place to squeeze in all your plugins. If you want to use the plugin, just use it, that's the only good way :)

Mods, can you please remove my name from topic title and tags? Thanks :)

    Ah... my sincerest apologies then.

The reason I ask this is because I would like to be able to add this code to any site without it being a "plugin". Like, just to add some code so as to put a clickable image in the corner.

But, the reason I can't use plugins is because I am working with ithemes and I don't believe normal plugins work with their theme builder, only plugins written specifically for Builder.

    Does this make sense?

PS. I thought I could just write the code somewhere and it would command the browser to display the chosen image in the chosen location. Am I wrong in assuming this?

If iThemes are WordPress themes, the plugin will work. Or at least it should. If it doesn't, then there's something seriously wrong with whatever iThemes is doing. If you'd like to use the plugin outside of WordPress, open the plugin file and you'll see some HTML. Copying that HTML to some other file with HTML (between the body tags) should do the trick.
