my username is not being recognised for some reason, and due to wordpress not having any "contact" area i don't know what to do to get into my own website! I have never had this before so I am wondering if the site has been hacked in any way.
This is urgent so help asap please

Thanks for getting back to me. I just want to get into my site and can not. My username is not recognised so i don't understand where to go with this. I have looked at any passwords i may have changed but I have not. Do you think this might be a hack? I am not experienced with hacks so am not sure. How can I reset my username and password and resume work?

I have cleared the cache and cookies, and reset the password - no change. I haven't changed anything yet it says 'invalid username' so I can only presume a hack. The site has no problems with the appearance so i am lost what is going on. I have not made any changes to the login details other than in the last 20 minutes change the password, thinking it may help, but no change. I can not disable plugins or deactivate as I can't even get into my site. Ive checked many aspects of what you have on the 'login trouble' page. I don't know how to check the wp-config.php file so am now stumped. Sorry to seem ignorant, but I am with this aspect of coding/help.
What can I do now?

on the login page it says 'lost your password?' so I followed the path to change this and still I can not access the site, so I can only think it is the username, but this is an autosave and I have the username/login details from when I started the site and these i have never changed - I wouldn't know how to at the moment let alone want to.

I've tried and can not resolve this by myself - I require a solution to this otherwise i will have lost my site. How do I reset the username as well as the password?
This is not BUMPING by the way - I asked you a question further to what you gave me and |I had no answer. Does this site operate with people who have grudges?

I have just read that the username can not be changed, so what the h*ll is going on here - why can i not get some decent, conclusive help here? I don't want links to pages about hacks - I can not resolve this and need YOUR help, simple. If you don't want to give it then show me someone who WILL help me to resolve this totally. I have never had such a problem, and I have never had a forum moderator get so Ar*ey over the help I am requesting? I've not been rude to you yet you seem compelled to respond with smart remarks continuously. What's going on here, please tell me so I can get out of this blo*dy forum?!

These forums are staffed by volunteers, and as noted above, if you need more help, you'll need to hire someone.

Having a grudge against the volunteer helpers is here is not helpful. We like to help people who read the docs that have been linked in earlier posts in this thread. We can't help if you don't read and try what has been suggested.
If you can't do the work yourself, consider looking for a reputable person to fix it correctly on jobs.wordpress.net or freelancing sites such as Elance. (It's not a good idea to respond to unsolicited emails from forum users offering to work for you.)

And what, the volunteers don't know how to help? I've used forums extensively and never had such a hard time resolving an issue such as this - someone please tell me why? I just want to access my site and can not for the life of me work out the problem. If volunteers can't help then they should not be here, as they are volunteering for no reason.

songdogtech, this is not about not knowing how to 'use' the site - if I'm inside it i can work it well. But I have never had an issue of not being able to access my site completely out of the blue, with the reason not being apparent. I think it is inappropriate for anyone to say to me 'i' have a grudge - my comment was to the 'volunteer' who seems to have a grudge with me, and I have not done anything other than request some help - look at the history of the post please.
We all have our limitations, and mine seems to be with the problem here of just not recognizing how to access my site, for what ever reason that is that seems to have arisen. yesterday i had no problem. I wake up, try to log in and I can not get in.This is all I have sought help for. Why does this require I hire someone to help - I thought this would be a very simple adjustment that i don't have enough experience to recognize.

That does sometimes happen and really is why we sometimes say things like "Seek professional aid via http://jobs.wordpress.net/". We're not doing that to be obtuse or unhelpful but because we genuinely want you to be able to resolve your problem.

Let's start over again. While you are frustrated people here are trying to help you. Please keep in mind that you are being helped here by volunteers doing this on their own time for your benefit.
- You can't log into your WordPress installation because your site may be hacked
If you are hacked then you really need to work your way through those links Esmi provided. This is a self-help forum and we can't do the work for you. We can and do provide advice and I hope you'll take that advice as intended.
- You can't login because of problems with your user ID or password
If your site is not hacked (can we get a link to your site? I may have missed that) then the other advice that Esmi provided is right on target.
- You can't login because of some other reason
It could be something else. But for us to assist you you'll have to provide us some information and try some of the steps in those articles to determine that.

Posting "do you have any suggestions" less than 1 hour after your last reply to me IS bumping. This is a forum - not live chat. You were asked how you reset your password. Your reply indicated that you had not even checked your wp_users database table as suggested in one of the links I posted above - hence my suggestion that you actually try reading those links.
At this moment in time, we have no idea if your username has been changed in the database or whether this is simply a case of user error. The former is serious and indicates a hacked site. The latter is not & happens commonly every day. Until you investigate properly and confirm which scenario we are dealing with here, there is not a lot more we can do to help you.
Meanwhile, if these forums are not suitable for your needs, you can, of course, hire someone to carry out the work for you. Abusing the three forum moderators who have tried to assist you, however, will not help one bit.
