Hello! My first post here ...

I've installed WP site, and yesterday, after installing several plugins, my site suddenly won't FULLY load - the homepage will bring up only the parent menu, the slider simply continues to twirl like its trying to load, no other posts/footer menus load.

And, in the lower left corner, I have a little tiny pair of type characters which make a smiley face (not an images or icon, just what appear to be two little characters).

All of my content appears to be there.

Any brilliance from this forum would be greatly appreciated!

    Derke

It seems as though you're missing an essential file for the slider to work, it'll be a JavaScript file. Perhaps a different plugin is causing a conflict, have you tried disabling plugins to check?

Yes, I've tried disabling various plugins ... I was installing and activating several yesterday. At each step, though, I was checking in a browser compat. prog ... then suddenly this. And, nothing has solved the problem, despite working backward to de-activate the plugins in the reverse order I was installing them.

What's the missing essential file? Would that also affect all the other menus?

Which plugin are you using for the slider?

I'm not completely sure ... it came with a template from MySiteMyWay, and has been working flawlessly. Also, I'm running BuddyPress - which also has been flawless.

But, you'll notice: in addition to the other current problems with displaying the slider, lower menus, posts, etc., there also is now no BuddyPress menu.

I understand the array of problems you're presenting, and the 'bigger picture' suggesting a possible security breach, however I am tackling one problem which can be solved.

Looking at the SVN repository of PrettyPhoto, your slider plugin, the file necessary to the slider, jquery.prettyPhoto.min.js correlates to the webpage's missing file.

Are you saying I should download this and upload it somewhere to my site tree? If so, where in the fs tree?

  10. It seems as though you're missing an essential file for the slider to work, it'll be a JavaScript file.

Maybe, but Sucuri site check is complaining about 500 errors. Also that I'm pretty sure that swirly thing is from the theme and not a plugin.

Check your web server's logs, there may be something not working correctly on your installation. If you can confirm that it's the theme, don't start poking at js from random plugins... some theme's bundle Prety Photo (mine does for example) and just adding js files will make it worse.

    Nevermind.

  12. Are you saying I should download this and upload it somewhere to my site tree? If so, where in the fs tree?

No no no no no, don't do that. Seriously, do not do that.

That's a commercial theme, check with the company that you bought it from before you do something drastic like that.

Also look at your servers logs, the problem will be outlined there.

    Gents,

I finally found a backup that had been made using BackupBuddy less than 24 hours prior - an ABSOLUTE lifesaver! Kudos to those guys ... and to you both who were so generous in working to help me.

    I highly recommend BackupBuddy!
