For the old template system there used to be a rather nice guide to how to change the template...step by step.
I was kinda hoping there was something similar for the new theme system as well.

Anyway, I did a test install of wordpress 1.5 and tried to modify my old template and it does not appear to be working
this is what it turns out like

    when it should look like

I was kinda hoping that I could use my old template and modify something like kubrick to get something a little better.

Anyway, what do you think has gone wrong with my old template and is there going to be an idiots guide anytime soon?

WordPressers will never create an "Idiots' Guide" for anything because WordPressers are not idiots. :) We will create some helpful tutorials and other resources, though. Don't forget to check out Codex, as linked above by orangeguru and scott_sauyet. There is lots of good stuff there!

The 'old system' - now known as "Classic" is commented on and described in varying degrees by NM's guide and one I did.

The new default - based on Kubrick - is - I am lead to believe - supported in a Flickr group.
