   Hello Opajaap,

   first of all: thank you so much for this great plugin!!! :-)

   I’m trying to use WPPA+ to build up a photo database with 1.000+ images. Though there seem to be some limitations that I have to overcome:

   1. Is there a chance to keep the original filename while uploading images to WPPA+? And if not (I guess because every photo needs to have a unique filename) – might there be a way to only extend the original file name with a numeric prefix? This would make it easier to keep track of all these images (and to easily find the original files on a local hard drive).

   2. In my case, the user needs to be able to download the fullsize photo (12 MP and up!!!). Therefore it would be extremely helpful to not only have a “medium resolution” and a “thumbnail” version of an image, but also an “original high resolution” folder as well. When the user clicks on a slideshow image, the high-res version should appear for download.

   3. Is it possible to predefine special tag words which can be applied to uploaded images (via checkboxes) and which could be used to filter the images? Just think of a sidebar widget with check-boxes named “nature”, “people”, “animals”, “cars”.

   The initial name of the photo is the filename. There is not an initial filename field in the photo database. A historical fact that i regret.

   It is no problem to have more photos with the same name. WPPA+ identifies each picture by a one time use integer positive number.

   The ( optionally ) downsized photos ( see Table I-A2,3 and I-B1,2 ) are kept in ( single site version ) .../wp-content/uploads/wppa/ and the thumbnails in .../wp-content/uploads/wppa/thumbs/

   There is a plan to add the possibility to have both the orig files as well as the resized ( and of course the thumbnails ), but not yet implemented because of the backward compatibility problem ( how to recover the orig files and names ).

   If you need to keep the original files, uncheck Table I-A2. When the above will be implemented, you will at least be able to (re-)create the intermediate ( the currently resized ) images.

   The Tags field has been added in 4.9.0. See the Photo Albums -> Album admin -> Edit -> Manage photos admin section. You can define as many as you want and there is a WPPA+ Photo Tags tagcloud widget.

   Yes, but that's exaclty what I mean. When I look into my wppa+ image folder via an ftp-explorer, all I can see is a file list of 1.000 images - all named with numbers.
   For me, it would have an appeasing effect if the (physical) file name of an image would be something like: "0348_PhotoshootingInNewYork2006_IMG_7862.jpg".
   The Prefix-number is the one that is added by WPPA+, while the rest of that string is the original file name. This would guarantee, that I will find the original image (e.g. PSD file) on my local hard drive when I search my computer for "PhotoshootingInNewYork2006_IMG_7862".

   Yes, the tagcloud is a great tool, indeed. But a checkbox based tagword filter would be much more powerfull. Here is an example: Link
   It would allow the user to show up all images with 'australian' 'birds' which were shot in '2011'.

   I will make such a widget, based on the existing tags system. Good idea.
   This will take some time however (rather weeks than days) as i am very busy at the moment.

   About the filenames:

   It is explicitly not the idea that you do anything 'manually' inside the wp-content/uploads/wppa/ directory, like it is also not the idea to do anything 'manually' inside one of the six wppa+ database tables.

   You can update image files using the update checkbox on the import admin page. I can not imagine at the moment why you should ftp around in the wppa/ directory.

   If you need an admin tool ( e.g. a list of photonames sorted in any way including indication of album or something like that ) that makes sense also to other users i would gladly build it.

   I will NOT change one of the most fundamental design aspects of the system being the unique picture id as the internal filename, as this will jeopardize system consistency and data integrity and will also most likely increase security vulnerability.

   I strongly recommend you ( for forward compatibility ) to leave the photo names the defaults ( the original filenames ). This is also required for updating images as described above.

   I do absolutely unterstand your objection! Of course it is not a good idea to change such a core element!

   Turns out to be much simpler than i thought ( thanx to the good infrastructure of the plugin ). Will be released in the next update.

   WOW!!!!!! That's good news!!!
   I can't wait to test that feature. Do you need someone for beta-testing it ...? ;-)

   Do you think there is a chance to also see a "resized image" AND "orig fullsize image" option available in the next update?

   However - thank you very much opajaap!!! I have never seen such a great software support before! :D

   Tag filter is available now ( 4.9.2 )

   Saving untouched orig file will take more time (weeks/months) as it is part of a larger restructuration.

   I have searched the best image database/gallery plugin for WP for WEEKS. And now, I finally found it.

    Hey opajaap,

    the Photo-Tag Filter widget works great! :D

    Though there is one thing that I do not understand:
    As I have only one album (with many images), I created a direct link to the thumbnail page instead of the album page (in the main navigation menu).

    When I use the new tagword-Filter, everything works fine. But, when I deactivate all Tags cheboxes again (in order to see all thumbnails again), I get redirected to the album view instead of the thumbnail view.
    Is it possible to fix that little issue?

    This is not a good idea. When one clicks Find! accidentally on a site having 5000 images...

    It was aparently not ready yet. Update to 4.9.3, you will get an alertbox when no checkboxes are checked.
