• I have installed WordPress multisite using subfolders. After reading how multisite works I started brainstorming about a business model for a premium domain I’ve owned for about 16 years. I am a software developer, web server administrator and web developer, so some of this comes natural to me. Though I have some questions about multisite.

Specifically, I would like to know if there is a way of restricting users to creating a single site. I did some testing last night and was surprised when after creating a new user and logging in I was given an opportunity to create additional sites. I only want one per user.

Also, I think I want to synchronize the site name to the username. So for example, if a user registers with a name of ‘veronica’ I want their site name to be http://mydomain.com/veronica. This would mean the user would not be able to change or specify their own sitename.

I have additional questions, but will add a new post for those.

    Thank you!

Depends on what you mean by restrict.

It’s possible to detect if someone’s the member of a particular site or not, and you could have an MU plugin check for that and redirect if they’re not a member.

Well, I don’t have an account created right now where I can track it down, but I created an account last night and opted to have a site created also. Bouncing around through the options/settings, I saw where I could have created ANOTHER site if I wanted to while logged in as the user.

I guess I don’t understand why I would install a plugin to detect if a user already has a site created, then offer them an opportunity to create another site, and then let the plugin redirect them elsewhere if they choose that option.

I’d rather set a limit of 1 site per user and not offer them any option to create another site.

Ahh okay, that’s an easy fix 🙂 It sounded like you were saying something else.
