For events maps/ locations, all googlemap road languages are displayed in chinese (language of my browser used). When I tested this on an english browser it still displayed chinese language for the maps. Ideally I would like to have english language on english version, and chinese language maps on chinese version

This might be out of our control. It could be that Google detects where you are and adjusts itself accordingly.

I am in Spain, yet prefer English for browsing and a lot of the time Google ignores my language setting for various apps.

I've just visited the following link:

    http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/event/4-days-beijing-photography-tour-23501.html

As you can see it's an English language map for Chinese city (the road names are in English). I'm web browser is Chinese language also.

It would be beneficial to have more control over the language of the street names for non-English speaking countries (i'm working on a expatriate website)

I'm know googlemaps can cater for different language maps, but what's the best way to do this in events manager?

not something we have time to look into immediately, but will look at the possibilities as it seems there is a way. For now you can alter the js file directly in includes/js/events-manager.js around line 527

you'll see the address to the gmaps script, modify it according to this:

chances are what I'll do is change the locale according to the get_locale() setting but hard to say exactly until I do it :)

If i remember correctly it might not apply in your case though, so you may want to consider adding hooks that deal with this and modify get_locale() accordingly, it may help in other areas too...
