GoogleAds in sidebar

Hello,
I am interested in attaching the GoogleAds script to my Main Sidebar. I’ve tried inserting the script provided by Google directly into a Text widget, but when I save it the script disappears. How can I get GoogleAds into my sidebar? (Sorry if this question is rather basic, I am new to this… Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks.)
