Google Maps and GEO plugin (7 posts)

    Hi there,

I'm fairly new to WP, and I have been hacking around with a few of the cool features, since that was the whole point of moving from Blogger in the first place. Anyways, what I am trying to do is embed a Google Map using the maps API and an IFRAME.

An example can be seen at:

    http://www.sportswebconsulting.ca/wordpress/index.php/2005/07/policing-the-body-athletic/

Now, what I would REALLY like to do is use the GEO plugin with this so that whenever I post, the map automatically zooms in on that point (with a crosshair icon that I will add later). The marker icon that is there now is just pointing to the default GPoint, rather than pulling data from the plugin.

Can anybody offer advice on how I would accomplish this with minimal skills? Thanks in advance...

I haven't tried the GEO plugin yet, but I've written some Javascript and an article on embedding Google Maps in WP posts. Interesting problem since the Google Maps API Keys are good for one directory only.

Let me know how it works for you.

I've written a plugin called Travelog that keeps track of locations adn stuff, and I have been working on integrating GoogleMaps into it. Right now they are only in the admin panel, but I'm hoping that in the next version (soon) it will allow embedded maps in posts etc. Your article looks really helpful Bill, I'll read it over and see if I can get it working in the framework of the plugin. In the meantime, please check out my plugin and let me know what more you'd like it to do, or how to do it. I'm open to suggestions.

My site uses the geo plugin and young fooks google map plugin. It works well but doesn't allow for multiple posts on the same location. I am trying to figure a way around this if anyone has any suggestions. thanks.

Here I'll teach the simplest way to embed google maps on your postings:
    http://hackspot.gotdns.com/blog/archives/42/embedding-google-map-in-wordpress-posts/

You can see the example here:
    http://hackspot.gotdns.com/blog/archives/18/inline-google-map-for-wordpress/

    Features:
    * easy, easy, easy to use
    * support for setting overlay maps, map types, etc..
    * unlimited number of maps on single page
    * one marker per map
    * support for English and Japanese map captions (on map buttons)
    * uses Google Maps API v.2

You can find the author of the plugin here:
