Google Custom Search in WordPress
-
I’ve installed the google custom search engine into my site on my local development environment. Once I get it working perfectly, I’ll upload files to the live site.
I placed the Google Custom Search form field (text field) in header template, so that it can be used on any page on the site. It calls the get_search_form() — where Google script is found — so you’d think it would be retrieving identical search results regardless of the page.
Using Google Custom Search form from the home page, it works perfectly. It finds words across all categories (subjects) … perfect! Also, since I’m set up with AdSense (which pre-configures your searches to specific site) it’s actually querying my live site correctly (not my localhost one). Which is fine, since that’s where it needs to work.
Using the Google search form on any other page (i.e. Category page, or single page) it throws a 404 Error — ‘Cannot find what you’re looking for’ — every single time. Even when I’m searching for the identical words that work when searching from the home page, or words that are definitely tags in those specific categories.
Does anyone have any advice on what might be the problem?
