It may be of limited use but, like SpamAssasin and Spam Karma, using several techniques together can have a cumulative effect.

Not really. Spammers always hit as hard and wide as they possibly can afford at every instance. Welcome to the arms race. ;-)
Clintology's Nofollow plugin won't be the last word in nofollow tags but it's a solid step forward.
