   Is there a way to set up wordpress in order for google alerts to take notice of each new post?

   Set up a comprehensive Google Alert for your blog URL (shown here for the fake example.com):

   site:example.com

   To be notified of links and mentions in other blogs and websites, also set up these alerts (change to your own details):

   example.com
   inurl:example.com
   "My Blog Name"
   "My Author Name"

   http://www.google.com/alerts/

   I also subscribe to my own feed in Google Reader:

   http://www.google.com/reader/

   in that first link you placed, I am only able to subscribe to topics... not sure how to include my own blog though.

   Maybe you need a Google account (free)? I have one.

   I mean I have an account and im signed in on the alerts page. I also have a list of my current subscriptions to different topics of interest. But where do I insert my own blog for it to be included along with all the other alerts concerning that topic?

   There is a "New Alert" button on the bottom right of the alert list. If you can't find it, try this:

   http://www.google.com/alerts?hl=en&gl=

   but then it sends me to the create alert section. In which I have the following Options:

   Search Terms
   Type: News, Blog, Web, Comprehensive, Video, and Groups
   How Often: Once a Day, As it Happens, Once a Week

   The the Create Button

   Type site:yoursite.com in the blank Search Terms: field and then click Create Alert.

   Change yoursite.com to the URL of your blog (no http:// is needed).
