   I can treat the Google AdSense code snippet as as widget and enable the vertical ad to display in the sidebar. But where do I put the code snippet if I want to banner the ad horizontally across the top of the content?

   Also, if there's a plugin that takes the hassle out of this for a novice like myself, I'd be grateful for the name of it.

   I use the 1st one and like it well -simple and a lot of features if you need them
   never tried the 2nd but it's very popular
