• A web designer set up a WordPress site for us and found a host for it. Then apparently the hosting fees weren’t paid and the site vanished. Then the designer vanished. I cannot get the host of the site to migrate the site to another account because the designer didn’t put our names on his account. I can’t reach the designer. Is there any way to copy the site, which is now up, in order to load it onto the new account? Gears was enabled on my computer and should, if I understand it, have stored the site on my computer?

  • You need the actual theme files from the server as well as the database if any content had been created. Then you need to setup wordpress on a new host add import the old database and then upload the theme files back.

You could look for a Google Cache of your site and copy content and probably images, but you can’t get the php source files of the theme. Search with the string cache:www.mysite.com at Google.

Gears stores CSS and other files locally, and this thread might be of use: Reading Gears Data Files -Gears Users |Google Groups, and you can search the group, too.
