    OK,

So I've been running a ruck of websites on two Godaddy shared hosting plans for a number of years & I've now ran out of databases & thought that it might be a good idea to invest in one of their virtual dedicated servers.

So I've downloaded a demo of Win Server 08 & installed the Web Edition on a test pc. I've got IIS up & running & can view a customized html page from a networked machine. Happy days. I now want to get a WordPress Site up & running.

I can do the F5min install & have hacked around changing things so am familiar with that side of the config. What I do need some help with is the other bits.

I've presumed that I need MySQL & so I've downloaded the MySQL Installer from mysql.com/downloads.

I've installed it & ran the Workbench tool. Presumably I'm sniffing in the right direction here? I've not had too much of a tinker with it yet, but it sort of looked as if it would do the right thing.

Secondly - PHP. Do I need to do anything with regards to PHP? Do I need to enable anything in IIS, or do I need to download & install anything?

Finally, any further tips? I administer a few servers so know a bit more than the basics, but I'm learning on the WebDev side.

Thanks in advance for the words of wisdom!

Not particularly familiar with running WordPress on Windows hosting but you may find the answers you need here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/web/platform/phponwindows.aspx

    and here:

Whilst waiting for someone else to chime in.

Second link seemed to do the job nicely.

Although I'm still not 100% on what needs to be installed, the app on this link seems to do all the legwork for you.

I initially installed the IIS role on the server, downloaded & installed MySQL Workbench, & stuck WordPress into the C:\inetpub\wwwroot folder on the server, however when I went to install WordPress (http://127.0.0.1/wp-admin/install.php), a message appeared informing that there was no PHP present(not sure of exact terminology).

If anyone could tell me what else I needed to stick on the server, then I'd be greatful?

    Thanks

That message suggests you haven't installed PHP which is required for WordPress.

The first link I posted has the download for installing PHP then use the second link to install WordPress.

    Hi,

I've been playing about with things for a bit, then coming back which probably isn't the best way to figure it all out.

I've found this link which seems to tell you how to do it all in one place:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/50432/how-to-install-php-on-iis-7-for-windows-server-2008/

    Thanks for the tips threestyler.
