• I am planning to buy web hosting.

I am confused between godaddy 4gh hosting and bigrock webhosting.
which one should i choose among these?

I am going to host wordpress and smf forum on my site.

I can get go daddy hosting for less price than big rock. Because 4gh has 10gb space plan (which is enough for me i think ).

Which one should i choose? Godaddy or Bigrock?
People say Godaddy is slow, bad service and all. I have been reading reviews since 2 days, and still i am unable to decide which host to choose.

I cant afford hostgator, bluehost or dreamhost, etc. Godaddy and Bigrock are the only ones which fit well within my budget and requirements.

    Help 🙂

  • You can afford GoDaddy (at $4.74 a month), but you can’t afford HostGator (at $5.56 a month)? (prices taken from 12-month plans on both hosts) If the difference of less then $1 a month is going to make-or-break a deal, you are really not looking at things in the right way.

Having said that, Godaddy is almost universally renowned for bad hosting services, although some people have had good experiences there. I have no personal experience with Bigrock so can’t say anything about them. I have used HostGator and for the extra $1 a month I’d suggest them as they have a pretty good record and have got decent support when you need it.

One thing to keep in mind though… When you are looking at this ultra-low end of the market place, you are never going to find perfect service, perfect uptime, perfect… well, anything.

Oh sorry, i forgot to mention the plan prices. Ok here it is, these are the plans which i can afford. I know hostgator is the best.

    GoDaddy – 4GH Hosting – 10 GB webspace – (Unlimited Transfer)
    3 year price – Rupees 99.99 / month
    From Google: 99.99 Indian rupees = 1.79592039 US$
    For 3 years: 3599 Indian rupees = 64.641639 US$

Plus GoDaddy says 20% discount offer.
    That makes 3599 – (3599 * (20/100) )
    Equals to 2879.2 Indian rupees = 51.7133112 US$

BigRock – Advanced Hosting – Unlimited websspace – (Unlimited Transfer)
    3 year price – Rupees 149 / month
    From Google: 149 Indian rupees = 2.676189 US$
    For 3 years: 5364 Indian rupees = 96.342804 US$

So that is what is confusing me. Just thinking of which host is better among these. Which will suit my WordPress Site and SMF forum.

And Michael, Thanks alot for replying. 🙂

“Unlimited” is NEVER “Unlimited”. There is always some sort of restriction set on that, the type of restriction depends on the hosting company. If it really did mean “Unlimited” I’m sure that places like eBay and Facebook would love to move their systems to an unlimited hosting account for $4.99 a month. 🙂

As for the two hosting companies that you are set on, either of the plans supports what you want to do from what I can see. The only difference is going to be customer support. As I said before, I don’t know BigRock so I can’t comment on them, and I haven’t dealt with GoDaddy hosting support before so I can’t confirm if they are as bad as everyone seems to say they are.

If you are concerned about this in any way at all, do not sign up for three years. Sign up for 3 to 6 months. It may be a bit more expensive, but you can change to the lower price if you think that everything is going well and you’ve found out that it’s as good as you hope that it is. If you sing up for three years and after 6 months it all falls apart, you’ve done yourself out of 2 1/2 years of money. As a personal thing I don’t even like hosts that want you to pay quaterly. I have always done things month-by-month because I’ve had a lot of times before when things have needed to be moved very quickly when something goes wrong.
