    I downloaded WordPress and unzipped it. I put the directories and files in the root of a site I maintain. The intent is to build a blog. How do I get started? I know nothing about WordPress except I was told to use it to create a blog. Thank you in advance. Bob

    It is installedmin the root directory. I tried the 5 minute install and ran into problems.

    I published doevalley.org with the WordPress directory.

    It looks like you have a non-WP site at that domain name - if you want to keep that site, you would need to install WP is a sub-directory - for example name the sub-directory "blog":

    doevalley.org/blog

    Are you intending to redo your entire site in WP? If not, the above scenario will be a totally separate WP blog - only connected to your site via links on both sites.

    Sub directory of WordPress is there and published. I do not want the entire site in WoedPress.
