   how i get the right column (#extras) to extend all the way to the footer of all my pages just like the left column does?

   Apply a right hand border to the content instead of to the right hand column.

   That's a great simple fix, when the background color is the same in the content area and in the sidebar... But, will you get the same desired effect if you have a different color background in one or the other?
