Getting Plugin Names and Versions

Hello,

I am looking for a way to get the Plugin names and Versions that are currently installed with WordPress. I would prefer to get them from the mysql database as this seems to be the best way I can figure out to get these values.

Please help as right now im going through the Plugins folder in wp-content and getting the information from the readme.txt and is not working well with my greps.
