• OK, I have it all set up and put some posts up- I wanted to take a different turn on all the other blogs by offering some original content and or stories that are not covered or covered in a unique way.

now how do I get people on the site- I have done search engine optimization for static web sites but not blogs, what I am asking is about the ping o matic, Technorati tags, RSS feeds and all that.

What did you do and what works for getting visibility for your blog?

  • Hmm…well, I don’t offer any original content, it’s all the same stuff as all the other blogs. :p

You ask a simple question that doesn’t have a simple answer. It depends. It depends on what your content is about, and how well you write and how you design your site. It takes time to build up readership, and if you are doing a blog on silver moonfish sculptures, then your audience may be passionate but very narrow. If you are writing about politics, you will be competing with thousands of other sites.

Sure, Technorati is a tool, just like use Ping-O-Matic and such, so use them. Join a webring, if one exists for your content or theme or whatever reason. Visit other blogs with similar content, and post comments. DON’T SPAM THEM WITH YOUR ADDRESS, but engage in real dialogue. Soon others will see your comments and pay your site a visit to get your perspective.

Most of all, be patient, and have some fun. An old cattle rancher once told me “It’s like grass and water, Moose. It all comes out the same in the end.”

I have NO idea what that has to do with this topic, but it never hurts to pass along sage advice.

    Good luck with your blog!
