I just built a website using WordPress. The problem I am running into is when I signed up for, and log into the website as a patron to the website, the WordPress edit bar was ontop of the page. I absolutely do not want patrons to my website to have the ability to chang my site. How do I fix this?

That bar is only visible to logged in users - such as yourself.

My website is, or my intention is, to have a membership site. So I used a totally different username and password to sign up for my website, so I could see what the user would see. The username had no affiliation to WordPress but I still got the edit bar. I am really new to this (about 2 weeks) so if I am not getting what your saying bare with me. Thanks

The "bar" that you see is the wordpress admin bar ? self - hosted normal bar ? you want to disable it ?

Looks to me as if it is the admin bar. Anyone, at this point, who signs up for my site has the ability to edit it. I have to disable the bar before I can advertise my site.

The bar is only displayed to users who have logged into your WordPress site.

So is there a way to remove options other see like dashboard, add page etc etc? I don't mind the bar being there, I just don't like the options people have. I cant have a website everyone can edit.

Logged in users will only see.have access to the appropriate privileges for their role. For example, those at the Subscriber level will only have a link to view/edit their own profiles and nothing more.

Good think the light just came on, this thread looked like two BLind people trying to play tennis .

Anyhow , Bad humor apart - if you are afraid of people editing your site, you should pay attention as to which USER ROLE you are giving them upon registration. I suggest you go to the CODEX and read a bit to get familiar with wordpress , especially the part of user roles .
