   Trying to use as website. Instructions say add home page then anaother page. Now I have 2 Home tabs. Can't get rid of the one that was placed by theme author. Extremely frustrated

   Impossible to answer without knowing what Theme you're using.

   Created static page. That is why 2 Home tabs...and yes I am a rookie :)

   Your theme probably has a hard-coded Home link - which means that you'll have to edit the relevant theme template file to remove it.
