Garland color picker not working (9 posts)

Hey guys, I'm not finding any documentation on this so I thought I'd start a thread. The Garland theme I downloaded from http://www.jackbook.com/blogger-templates-gallery/garland-wordpress-theme doesn't seem to be working correctly. Well, everything except the color-picker it seems. I try to change the hex-values in my Custom Colors tab but when I save it just reverts back to the Default colors. And there's no change in the preview while I'm changing colors. Why could this be happening?

I found a new version of the Garland theme here: http://incoherentbabble.com/2008/02/03/fresh-garland-release/

But I'm still having the exact same problem. The javascript preview works now, but when I save, nothing happens. It just reverts back to the Default color settings. I have no idea what's going on here. It's not a write permissions issue either. I checked that already.

Also might be informative, I'm running this on my own localhost server (apache) this is not hosted on wordpress.com. Funny, this theme works perfectly on there, why wouldn't it work perfectly for me on my own apache server?

    Download Garland fixed version here:
    http://incoherentbabble.com/2008/02/03/fresh-garland-release/

After install, edit "garland/functions.php" and change "Presentation" to "Design", the color picker may work then.

Thanks, I had the same problem and changing Presentation to Design fixed it for me.

Thanks, it really did work! I have been searching for hours and was very frustrated - it was apparently as easy as this. Thanks!

So I am now having this same exact problem. I did grab the standalone theme and uploaded it to my host. This resolved the color picker showing up issue, but I am unable to make any changes I make there 'stick'. I have changed 'presentation' to 'design', but each time I select my colors and choose "Save Custom Colors", the defaults revert back. I have deleted and uploaded the theme several times, thinking that I've jacked something up with my tweaking.

Is there any chance that I need to upload a color palette to my hosted file structure, or are these colors standard codes among the development realm? I did check and the files are NOT read-only.

I started out with this theme at http://www.pelokee.com and absolutely love it as it appears there - darker blue in the header basically. I am trying to mimic that theme at my hosted WP.org site at http://www.theappiagroup.com/ but am stuck with the lighter blue default colors that I don't particularly care for.

Thanks in advance for any info....

I have noticed one thing, not sure if this helps - if I edit functions.php and type in the colors I want, the preview in the color picker looks exactly like I want to the published content to look like. But again, these changes aren't propagating to the presented product.

    3/23/09 PROBLEM RESOLVED -

Apparently with the new 2.7 version of WordPress, "Presentation" and "Design" are no longer used.

For anyone stumbling upon this issue moving forward, use the word "Appearance" in the functions.php file to allow you to change colors for the Garland theme.
