I’ve had BBpress 2.5.3 installed on my site for a while but I disabled it. Despite having the latest version when I activated it I could not see the Forums options in my Dashboard. I am still ‘keymaster’ status and the Dashboard panel shows my forums and topics, but when I click on them it either says I don’t have permission or it just comes back saying ‘Cheatin’, huh?’. I systematically went through my plugins and found GARD 2.21 is the one causing the problems. My website is http://www.followtheboat.com

    Please advise.

I replied to your email. Thanks for the great detail. Posting on our support forums also allows private messages, for passing sensitive information.

This way others can benefit from the solution.

As per the forum instructions this is WP 3.9 and the latest version of GARD. I do not understand what ‘sensitive’ information I am hiding from you or why I have to post this on your own website. Surely for “others to benefit from the solution” it is easiest to post the problem here for everyone to see.

Quite simply, GARD is breaking bbpress. When activated BBPress does not show the Forums section in Dashboard. I explained this in my original post, but please let me know if there is any other information you need from me.

Not all plugin developers offer support here. If you are looking for assistance, I recommend that you follow the plugin dev’s request.

Oh, it’s not that you’re hiding anything. It’s usually think like admin access requests, usernames, and passwords.

You did explain it clear. In my plugin, and on the page here at wordpress, I send users to the forums for support. There are many threads there, which is why I like everything in one place.

Can you try the “user role editor” mentioned in the link below and see if that helps?

Excellent, that worked. I simply clicked the ‘reset’ button and the forum appeared.

For the record, I come to the WordPress.org forums first to find a solution to a problem, which is why I believe in keeping the solution here for others to see. If they spot a thread marked ‘resolved’ then they know the problem has a solution.

Thanks for the prompt reply and for your work on the GARD plugin.

Thanks demonboy for the kind words. The main reason I like our forums is for the private messaging and emails on new threads. I often login to users sites and fix problems, so I need their login info, which can’t be posted publicly.

I do understand why most users look here for support, so I check these posts a few times a month 🙂
