I have an image of a person stood up, and using the built in WP gallery it cuts of their head and feet and displays only the torso.
Seemingly then it only makes the container a specific size, and doesn't actually resize the image. (?)
Is there any way around this?
If not where is this code in the WP files, so I can edit it and perhaps look at adding a more usable and decent functionality, like imagick to resize with aspect ratio.
Cheers
Admin/Settings/Media. Uncheck the box that says "Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions".

Didn't make any difference.
They are thumbs though as on that settings page I changed the size of the thumbs (above the tick) and the images resized, but no proportions, still centre of image at 150x150
Changing the thumbnail settings will only affect any new images that you upload. If you have older images that have cropped badly, you'll have to re-upload them to create the new thumbnails. Sorry - I don't know of any method to force the re-generation of thumbnails. Doesn't mean that someone hasn't come up with a plugin fix, though. So it might be worth checking out the Plugin Directory.

It's a new site, so re-uploading the 20 images I have now is fine.
Thanks for the info, any images I upload from now will also be fine.
I had a look at some plugins, but they all appeared to have way to much functionality for what I needed.
Cheers!
