I have just installed the Yoast GA for WP plugin version 4.1.2 onto two websites. When in settings, 'ignore users' intially I chose 'administrator'. I have no idea if this is the right thing to do. I viewed my source code and saw that GA was not shown to users above level 8 or something...

Anyway, after checking my GA account, it says my tracking code is not installed either. I thought the plugin did this for me, or have I misunderstood how it works? Do I still need to paste the code in? I was hoping to avoid this.

I am new to this, so trying to fathom it out. Thanks in advance:)

The plugin does do this for you indeed but it takes some time sometimes for Google Analytics to update :) If you saw a mention in your source than the plugin is working fine.

@Joost de Valk. An answer from the man himself. Thanks you very much! I look forward to seeing the results.
