Future of WordPress core (2 posts)

    Just a brief thought...

Should the future of the WordPress core functionality be:
    - a Post-Anything weblog with customisable category & tag RSS filters.
    - core openID (or versatile login options, e.g. Twitter/Facebook connect).
    - realtime.

Basically, a self-hosted social media stream/timeline (emphasis on media, not just a particular genre of text article). But to remain properly social while being self-hosted requires core integration with social networks. Hence openID, Facebook/Twitter connect (or whatever the future of social inter-network user authentication is) needs to be in the WordPress core. And of course, for this to be useful it needs to be realtime searchable.

The WordPress core should stay as lean and simple as possible. It should be the common grounds for all WP users. Not everyone uses their site as a "media stream", so I think that such functionality would be best left to separate branches or plugins.
