I had this funny problem after upgrading to WP 2.8.4 (from 2.6.5 via 2.7.1):
When trying to edit one particular post, instead of a normal edit panel with editable text, the browser went totally white.
After disabling all plugins it appeared, but only in html - even in "visual" view. Even more strange was that NONE of the buttons or dropdown panels worked.
I solved the problem by copying the html to an editor before deleting the post (that worked!) and then making a new one. But anyway:
What could be the reason for this problem?
With the new post everything worked as normal, also with all the plugins reactivated.
Thanks,
Kjetil
Trouble-post here (lots of content to loose...)
Hi,
Check with these options:
-> Upgrade your wordpress to 2.8.4 version - latest version.
-> Disable all the plugins and enable it one by one to find out the culprit.
-> Check with default theme in order to rules out theme level problem.
Thanks,
Shane G.
Thanks a lot, Shane, but apart from the last point I've already tried it all :o)
Luckily the problem is also solved - my question is more in wonder of what was actually happening.
You're right about plugins: It was after disabling them all that the post's edit panel reappeared - though it was quite dead. And after copying the contents to a new post AND reactivating all the plugins, everything worked there.
So, it looks like the problem was somehow connected just to that old, troublesome post.
- It could be some plugin incompatibility: Some plugins are not yet fully updated for WP284.
- Maybe some corrupt data in the database? Before anything else I also tried repairing/and optimizing the database (with the DB Manager - a must-have plugin!), but it made no difference.
Weird
