• Hello,

I’ve been having some issues uploading plugins. I was using FileZilla and had no problems at first. Then the other night I was attempting to upload some plugins and it shows that they are there in the plugins folder, but when I go to my WP plugins page they are not listed. When this first started happening, I would try to download the plugin on the WP plugin page ‘add new’ and it would upload it. Now when I try to upload from my ftp (FileZilla) and then see it not listed and then try uploading from the WP plugin page it says I already have the most current version of the plugin installed- yet it is still not listed among my plugins.

I thought it was first a plugin that wasn’t working- no it happened with a few. Then maybe FileZilla- I uninstalled and reinstalled, that didn’t work. I tried Fireftp and the same thing happened. And Fireftp wouldn’t take both my sites hosted at different places when I tried to set it up.

This is happening with both my sites, that are hosted at different places. The trouble started after I set up a hosting account with hostgator. FileZilla was working fine with my test site at GoDaddy. I tried deleting the hostgator hosted site on FileZilla and that didn’t work either.

My conclusion- it has to be WP- any help would be great!

  • Some host situations may need you to set your file permissions and make your wp-content, wp-content/plugins, wp-content/themes folders to 777. Sometimes the same needs to happen to wp-content/uploads.

You can change file permission using FileZilla.

    Thanks Michael,

I’m wondering why it would need these permissions set long after I’ve already been uploading plugins successfully. In other words, I was uploading plugin using FZ just fine, and then it stopped working.

Could be your host changed things. I know my host moved accounts from one server to another causing similar issues.
