    I receive the message:
FTP credentials don’t allow to write to file /…/public_html/test/.htaccess

I entered working FTP details (I tested them) into wp-config.php, but the message remains, and I can’t make changes to W3 Total Cache because the changes can’t be saved.

Why isn’t W3 Total Cache able to use working FTP connection details?

  • This is not a W3 Total Cache issue per se, this is an FTP configuration issue. Unfortunately, self-hosted CDN configuration issues are notoriously hard to troubleshoot since the variables are out of our control and thus we recommend using a traditional CDN like MaxCDN or CloudFront if possible.

We are not using self-hosted CDN. I never mentioned that.

Is the FTP error a WordPress FTP error, or a W3 Total Cache FTP error?

What CDN product are you using?

The error appears to be related to permissions, try changing .htaccess permissions to 777 if they aren’t already to see if the error goes away.

I am not using any CDN product. I never mentioned CDN.

.htaccess was set to 444. I changed this to 755 and the error went away.

Sorry, I made way too many assumptions here 🙂

    Glad you got it resolved.
