I'm new to self-hosting on WordPress.org. My web programmer is hosting the blog and has set everything up for me on his server. In order to install Plugins, change themes and generally makes most enhancements to site, do I need for my developer to provide me with direct access (FTP) to his server. Neither of us has ever done this before.

not necessarily. you should be able to add plugins and themes without ftp, directly from the admin area. FTP access shouldn't be necessary (as long as the person hosting is willing to help if things go south..... sometimes a plugin or theme can bomb your site and ftp is required to fix things)

    Hi,

You can install this plugin and you can directly access the FTP to your blog to upload/download theme/plugins:

    Thanks,

    Shane G.
