First I'd like to say that I can't post a URL because I'm working on this locally.
Ok -- I'm using a static page for the front page and a page for posts. I've made some test posts on the posts page and for some reason the first post is sticking to the top while the rest go in descending order as they should. The first post is not a sticky so I'm not sure why it's sticking?
Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

I am having the exact opposite problem. I want my posts to appear in order newest to oldest but they appear in chronological order. One of the authors of the blog was choosing the sticky option but it was putting the post at the bottom of the list. I signed it as administrator and edited the post and chose sticky, and now the post appears at the top. I still can't figure out how to get the posts ordered from newest to oldest.

Posting the code you're using to call up the posts would be helpful.
