Front page takes a long time load

    Just accessing the index page takes a long time. Once into the site, it’s not slow at all. The admin interface runs reasonably fast.

    I’m running WP 2.1 with the following plugins:
    Akismet
    PXS-Mail
    Safe Include
    wp lightbox 2
    sidebar widgets

    I regularly post in two languages (Japanese and English). I used to use Gengo (and thought that it was the main reason for the slowness) but it isn’t compatible with WP2.1 so I uninstalled it for the time being.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

    Well, for me it is probably one of the fastest loading blog pages I’ve seen in a long time!

    Are you on a different continent than the server?

    I’m in Japan but my site is hosted in the States. Would that be a reason that just the front page seems to load slowly? I hadn’t considered that at all…

    It may certainly be a factor depending on caching. For instance, first time you hit the page images and such are downloaded. Subsequent pages will pull images and CSS from your local browser cache.

    And yeah, I’m just theorizing… but it could fit 😉

    Loads extremely fast for me (low end wildblue satband) – less than 2 secs total for both the splash page and the main page.

    Your front page is very very small, only 52K. Honestly, the only thing I can think of (if you keep experiencing long load times) is to change your web hosting company? I don’t know what else it could be, it’s not your site.

    I don’t see any problems at all. Cable connection, and your site loads faster than mine.
