• I am building a site in the Twenty Eleven theme. I set the front page to be a static page, which I created and called “Aloha”. I also established (in Theme Options) that the layout would default to left sidebar, right content, and I specified on the Edit page that the front page (Aloha) would be just that also. However, the rest of my pages use the default template, which has no sidebar.

    When I edit the front page, then “View” the result or “Visit site”, everything looks fine. But if I click on the Aloha tab in the top menubar, it returns a page with the URL http://www.maluhiakai.com/?page_id=2 saying:

    “This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?

    It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.”

    If I type the URL maluhiakai.com in the browser address bar. then again the front page displays fine. If I type http://www.maluhiakai.com/?page_id=10 (I don’t recall how I stumbled across this page ID — I am not a newbie but I am nor a programmwr either!)

    Apparently, the menu option for Aloha points to http://www.maluhiakai.com/?page_id=2. How can I edit this so it points to either maluhiakai.com or to http://www.maluhiakai.com/?page_id=10, since either of these work?

    I am capable of editing code if someone who knows what they are doing tells me the precise edit to make.

    Help appreciated! (I’ve temporarily taken down the “Under construction” page in hopes someone will take a look at it for me pretty soon.) Thanks.

    David

  • Go to your Dashboard.

    Choose Appearance->Menus

    Make sure you have the tab “Edit Menus” not “Manage Locations” open.

    Underneath the title “Menu Structure” you will see your menu items and the top one should be Aloha.

    Click the arrow at the right side of the Aloha menu item

    Then at the bottom of the open Aloha menu box click the Red remove link to remove the Aloha menu item.

    Now over on the left hand column open up the Links by pressing the arrow on the right of the “Links” box.

    Place http://www.maluhiakai.com into the URL box.

    In the “Link Text” box type Aloha.

    Then press the button “Add to Menu”

    The newly added Aloha Menu Item will now be at the bottom of your menu.

    Click hold and drag it to the top position and remember to click “Save Menu”.

    I recommend you change your permalinks to pretty permalinks not the Page ID. This will make more sense to your users.

    Go to Settings->Permalinks

    Change the Common Settings from “Default” to “Post Name” and remember to click “Save Changes”.

    Aloha, Stacy

    God and Madam Pele bless you, Stacy. Worked like a charm. I will take your advice about the Permalinks (if I still have a computer when this darn hurricane has passed through.)

    Mahalo and Aloha,

    David

    Batten down the hatches and pray to Pele to lighten the hurricane!

    Glad to be of help and sending weather angels to help you.
