[resolved] "Front page displays" settings not displaying new layout/options (5 posts)

In one of the last Beta versions that I was using (beta 3), the "Front page displays" settings on the SETTINGS > READING page had changed slightly from the way it's currently working in 3.4.2 (In beta 3 the option was actually called "Enable a static front page").

As well as being able to select which pages you want displayed on your front page and blog, you could also specify a new page and have it automatically created.

This functionality now seems to have been removed in RC1 and it's reverted back to how it currently works (in 3.4.2). I'm presuming this was done on purpose for some reason, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

    Thanks.

  2. The changes to the Front Page Displays settings were postponed until a later version -- we didn't feel like we'd really gotten it right, and didn't want to ship something that wasn't a clear usability improvement compared to the old version.

So, you're correct that we're back to the 3.4 version, but a lot of us are hoping to make the improvements in the future.

Ahhh I was wondering if that was the case. I'd heard a few people say they thought it was confusing but after having a look through Trac, I couldn't see find any mention of where they're decided to rollback to the previous version. Thanks for clarifying.

In Nacin's comment here (https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16379#comment:107) he mentions the need to revert some of the changes. In particular #22127 which looks to be the one for those Front Page mods... https://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/22127
