I’m not an expert, but I’d imagine it would be. Although the Codex appears to be down at the moment, I seem to recall reading that you could create another Loop to get posts, and then it would simply be a case of using query_posts('cat=X') to get the categories you wanted. There shouldn’t be a conflict with the plugin as it explicitly uses if (! $wp_query->is_home).
Of course, someone more knowledgeable may have something else to say – as I said, I’m no expert.
You can search for help in the Codex by using Google and then clicking on the “cached page” link. That will show you the article as saved by the last time Google went through, and that will help get you the information.
