Functionally, all this does is add a link which takes you to the back-end. So, it's not a true "front-end" editor where you actually edit from the front. I tried it and don't see the point since I just end up on the back end. Joomla has a true "front-end" editor, but Joomla is too clunky for me.

Are you sure you're talking about the right plugin?
Front-end Editor generates a textarea right there, on the spot, where you can edit your stuff.

How to make it work(plugin installed)? which php file need to be edited?

no files need to be edited. it should work after you activate the plugin. Just double click on your front end post and see if it works.
