• I have a WordPress.com blog however, i want to move it to its own hosting.

    I’ve done the export and import, the xml itself is not that big (under a meg) however, it seems to hang when moving over the images and attachments from the WordPress.com side..

    It just sticks on the Import and nothing is happening page loading wise, should i just leave it as there is 300mb worth of images?

    Or is there something else i’m missing?

  • You could try using the tools inside WP.
    [I’ve done it successfully several times]

    In WP.COM

    1. dashboard > Tools > Export > export
    2. all content > ‘download export file’
    3. store the file on your PC
    4. == == ==
      In your own domain-site:

    5. dashboard > tools >import
    6. wordpress > if required install and run the importer plugin
    7. enter the downloaded back-up-file and start the import
    8. if need be select which user[s] to attribute the content to
    9. when succesfull, the content, included images will be transferred to your new site
