So, I made the unfortunate error of getting a wordpress.com blog, rather than going for the full fat wordpress.org option, as I was feeling a little bit nervous.

I now want to transfer from .com to .org. Yes - I've found a few guides that give me an outline of how to do that. BUT, I haven't found anything that explains what to do if you purchased your domain name through WordPress when you set up your wordpress.com blog. All the guides assume you didn't do this.

Any suggestions or recommendations on posts to read that I might not have found?

I'm particularly confused about when I need to transfer the domain to 1and1, and whether that will take my existing wordpress.com site down. I've also seen some notes about domain mapping, and there being an ongoing annual cost from WordPress ($12 rings a bell) but I'm not sure it applies in this instance - I hope not!

For reference, I want to move the domain to 1and1 and host my wordpress.org blog there, as I already have purchased a number of domains from them, and want to keep all my domain ownership / hosting through one place (not that I have any other sites, but planning on it in future).

All you need to do is change name servers at the registrar to point to your host account.
Or ask for transfer to where you have other domain names.

Thanks for the note. Is there a guide anywhere on WordPress that explains this, or should I be looking for something from 1&1?

Also - any ideas about domain mapping from WordPress charges?

You will need check with wordpress.com for the charges if you registered domain name at wordpress.com then you can change the nameservers by logging in wordpress.com account or ask them.

If you own the domain, you just need to update the nameservers to the nameservers that 1and1 provide you. Then you'll need to wait up to 24 hours for it to propagate.

And how do I update the nameservers? Is there a guide for doing this?
