    Hi,

    I'm using P2 on a 3.0.4 French version of WP and I can't locate the French translation files. Do they exist? If not, wheat file is supposed to be translated (I'll do it)?

    Thanks

    Marie
    PS: Does the translation include a translation for the "Hi," greeting in your template-tags files?

    Correction: The translation files are present, but either they don't get used or they are incomplete or something else is wrong because I get phrases like:

    Toggle Comment Threads | Raccourcis clavier (EN EN EN - FR)
    or
    * Status Update
    * Blog Post
    * Quote
    * Link

    or "Tagger" in the comment form
    or "Proudly powered by WordPress. Theme: P2 by Automattic. "
    or "Recent Comment"
    or the dte is shown with French formats but with "on" instead of "le" (e.g. 10:30 on January 20)

    etc.

    How do I solve this?

    Hi MarieDi,
    It looks like the French translation files exist but are out of date. If you'd like to update the files we'd be happy to include in the next update—or you could send a message to the original translator to see if they have an update ready.

    For information on updating the files see http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress.

    There is no problem with other themes. Only your theme. So it's not a matter of translating wordpress, it's a matter of translating your theme. The link you put doesn't help much.

    I'll be glad to translate if you send me a file. Please don't make me search through pages of instructions like what's on your link.

    Hi,
    Still no answer. Who is the original translator? There is no info at all on the theme page (where it says if we need support we have to come to this forum.

    I can't possibly look through tons of pages because I live in an area with only dialup connection (2.5k/sec). It takes forever. Can someone point me to the files? I mean, I do have the .po .mo files on my computer but if they don't work, what can I do? How do I make up the missing text? (New non-translated text keeps popping up.)

    Please help.

    Thanks

    If other themes show translated text and your current theme not; then that theme is not developed to handle translation

    EVERY english text in the theme must have coding to make auto translation possible

    YOu cannot translate the missing pieces by adding to the mo if the theme does not work

    Thanks 123milliseconds! That makes it clearer. Now let see if there is a solution.

    P2 is a theme I like because there is a front-end editor for the owner/users. The P2 Theme page sends us here for support.

    I downloaded it from wordpress.org and it really says that the theme is translation ready. The French translation files are present too. But it doesn't get translated when I use it with a French WordPress latest version fresh install.

    Now, is there a solution? Does anyone know how to actually reach the authors of P2? Has P2 been replaced by another theme?

    Thanks to all for your help!

    Marie-ç

    There are links to theme authors from WP.org where you downloaded it

    MarieDi, you've come to the right place for P2 support. If you don't feel comfortable making the translation yourself I suggest contacting the French translator and offering your help.

    If you look at the theme files you can see the name and email address of volunteers who work on translations, in the comments at the top of the PO file (for example: /languages/fr_FR.po).

    Translations are done by volunteers and do not happen automatically. Each time the theme gets an update a new string might be introduced, so volunteers will need to update their language files with each new theme release.

    Yes. They say to come here. Catch 22.

    Lance,
    It's not that I don't feel comfortable doing translation, I'm a certified translator.
    My problem is I freshly downloaded the theme and it came with the language files (aren't they supposed to be up-to-date?). When I saw they were not up-to-date, I looked to find where the updated files where and then I hit a wall. The theme developper sends us here. Period.
    And here people say "do it yourself" (thanks a lot!)
    Fine. I can translate. Now where in Heavens do I find the file that identifies the terms that have been added and were not translated?

    Can you help?

    Have a nice day!

    MarieDi,
    You might be happy to know that I did a new French translation for P2 (version 1.3.3).

    You will find it in this thread:
