I'm currently attempting to upgrade my wordpress from 2.8.2 to 2.8.3 via the automatic upgrade but the screen above just appears and stops loading. Does anyone know why this may happen and how I can resolve it? I've tried disabling all plugins.
I also get a http error when attempting to insert pictures too

You could try a manual upgrade instead.

Ya we can do manual upgrade which is a time taking processes and after the automatic upgrade feature has came we became a bit lazy.Anyways am also facing the same freezing issue.

I have almost the same problem. In my case I always get to "unpacking" before it freezes.

I found that temporarily disabling all plugins solves this problem for me.
I disable them, run the update and then go to "recently active" and enable them again. Done.
